Here is a collection of links to writers groups in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Only groups with websites are listed below. For ones with no websites, check out the listings at the Federation of BC Writers linked below.   


  • Federation of BC Writers - with over 400 members, the Federation offers programs and events, news, contests, networking and a newsletter for writers in the province. Membership is $80 ($45  for youth and seniors).
  • Writers Groups in British Columbia - an extensive list of writers groups in British Columbia from the Federation of BC Writers


  • Fraser Valley Poets Society - for over 25 years the FVPS has been fostering poetry in Abbotsford and district. (formerly the MSA Poets Pourri Society)


  • Burnaby Writers' Society - meeting on the second Thursday of every month at the Shadbolt Center for the Arts. Founded in 1967, this group has a $35 membership fee.


  • Interior Authors Group - a spirited group of writers on writing, editing, publishing, marketing, illustration and design. Meets the second Thursday of every month except July and August. 


  • Ram's Head Writers' Group -since 2003 this group has been meeting regularly in Langley, usually at a member's home. Check out their blog for recaps of previous meetings.


    Maple Ridge

  • Creative Writing Meetup (Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows) - this group of writers and aspiring writers meets every second Sunday in Maple Ridge. The meetings are casual and include readings from volunteers as well as discussions about the writing craft. Meetings usually last about 2-2˝ hours. Guests always welcome.
  • Golden Ears Writers - this Maple Ridge group meets at the ACT in Maple Ridge on the third Tuesday of every month from 7-9 PM.

    New Westminster

  • New West Writers - this group has been meeting for over 24 years at the Plaskett Room of the New Westminster Library. Meets from 10 AM to 4 PM every third Saturday of the month.  This is a closed group and has a waiting list for new members.
  • Waves Writers - meets at the Waves coffee shop on Begbie Street monday mornings at 10 AM. Hosted by author Ruth Kozak. $5 drop-in fee. The link is to Ruth's email address. You can find out more about her in the authors and blogs sections of this website.

    North Vancouver

  • Lynn Valley Literary Society - is a non-profit organization devoted to the celebration of creative writing and reading.
  • North Shore Writers Association - meets at 7 PM on the third Monday of most months at the North Vancouver City Library. They host speakers, participate in workshops and conduct readings. There is a $35 annual membership fee.
  • Young Writers' Club - sponsored by the Lynn Valley Literary Society, this is an educational program for young writers grades 5-12. They meet at Mollie Nye House on Lynn  Valley Road the second Wednesday of every month. There is a fee per session and a waiting list to get in. See website for details.


  • Penticton Writers & Publishers - founded by five housewives who wanted to write a book about their area in 1994, this group has expanded considerably organizing writing camps, community events and contests.

    Port Coquitlam

  • Tri-City Wordsmiths - this group meets the first Saturday of every second month at the Terry Fox Library. The focus is educational and often features guest speakers.

  • Quesnel Wordspinners - this group meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month, sometimes in members' homes, so check the website for details.Since 1981, they have published a dozen anthologies of their members' work.

    Salmon Arm



  • Rainwriters - this Surrey group has been meeting since 1993



  • B.C. Association of Travel Writers - meets periodically in Vancouver.
  • Grind Café Writers' Group - this group meets every two week at the Grind Gallery Café, corner of Main and 25th. They also publish a helpful newsletter you can get online, the Grind Writers News.
  • Just Write Vancouver - this group has alarge membership and has meetings almost every day at various locations around the city. Most of the meetings are spent actually writing.
  • Pandora's Collective - a registered charity established to promote literacy and self-expression in Metro Vancouver.
  • Thursdays Writing Collective - meets Thursdays at 2 PM at the Carnegie Community Center. These are free drop-in writing classes for the people of the Downtown East Side.
  • Vancouver Screenwriters Meetup Group - this group meets periodically around Greater Vancouver including the suburbs.
  • Vancouver Writers Group - meets monthly at the library and has other meetings as well. See website for details. 
  • Vancouver Writers' Social Group - there are over 250 members in this group with various meetings scheduled throughout the year. See the website for details.
  • West End Writers West End Writers is a critique group for writers of all genres from poetry to science fiction. They meet every Wednesday at 7 PM at Barclay Manor in downtown Vancouver. You can attend three meetings free after which it is $10 a meeting. ($5 f unemployed or a senior).
  • Meetup Groups Within 25 Miles of Vancouver - some are listed separately above, but there are many more that aren't. 25 groups altogether.


  • Victoria Creative Writing Group - this group meets every Monday, usually at the Habit Coffee Shop on Yates Street. Some meetings are restricted. See website for details.
  • Victoria Writers' Society - organizes activities, including small critique groups, in and around Victoria, BC. Membership required - $30.


  • Whistler Writers Group - this group organizes a variety of meetings and worksops for writers in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, including the annual Whistler Writers' Festival.
